Artificial accelerated aging

Artificial accelerated aging is the most common method for determining seed germination rate and seed vigor index. Artificial accelerated aging is to put the seeds in a harsh environment and subject the seeds to a variety of environmental tests. These seeds are then placed in an artificial climate incubator and awaiting their germination. Then the sprouted seeds are counted and the seed germination status is observed.

Artificial accelerated aging test procedure:

1. Use a sampler to extract the seed sample to be tested. The sampler is a sharp-edged metal head similar to a sword, and the other is a hand-held wooden material. We use the sampler to take out the sample, which ensures that the removed seed is representative of the sample to be tested and that randomness can be guaranteed.

2. Use a microcomputer to count a certain number of seeds, usually 100. The microcomputer-controlled particle counting instrument is convenient, quick, accurate, and so on. Therefore, we generally count 100 seeds using a counting instrument.

3. Put the 100 seeds into the aging box and put a certain amount of water around the aging box so that the height of the water can just reach the bottom of the aging box. The next step can be officially entered artificial accelerated aging.

4. Open the artificial aging box. Outside the box, there is a liquid crystal screen, which is a control panel. It can set the temperature, humidity and other seed germination environment. We can make different settings based on different seeds. When all the settings are completed, we can put the seeds into the artificial aging box. The real stage of artificial accelerated aging begins. During this period, the seeds will go through all harsh environments.

5. When the previously set artificial accelerated aging time is over, open the artificial aging box, remove the seed, and put it into the artificial climate incubator, let it germinate and grow in the artificial environment.

6. After a period of time, remove the seed sample to be tested, calculate the number of surviving seeds and record other useful data.

In this way, a simple artificial accelerated aging process is over. Of course, the data for one measurement is not always accurate. We can test it several times to get the average value. At the same time, if we want to compare the germination rate between different batches of different seeds, we can also use the above methods to artificially accelerate the aging of different seeds, and then compare their germination rates to determine the germination rate of which varieties. High, correspondingly, the quality of this batch of seeds is high.
