According to Bloomberg News, Hyundai Motor Korea is recalling 205,233 Santa Fe and Veracruz SUVs in the US market due to the safety hazards of the aforementioned forward-facing airbags.
The recall involves mainly the models 2007 and 2008 Santa Fe and Vilax SUV. On September 8, Hyundai revealed on the NHTSA website of the US Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it had received 7,800 air bag fault claim insurance policies. However, the current failure has not caused casualty accidents. On September 16, Hyundai formally submitted a recall statement to the NHTSA website.
Hyundai Motor also explained the cause of the failure. On the 2007-2008 modern SUV, the contact component of the Clock Spring used for the driver's forward airbag may be damaged, resulting in an overly high airbag circuit and may not be able to deploy when the vehicle collides. If this happens, the airbag warning light on the instrument panel will light.
Hyundai Motors USA spokesperson Miles Johnson pointed out: "Modern is actively implementing recalls to ensure the safety and quality of vehicles while continuing to meet the needs of users."
