The Texas Instruments low-voltage DRV8x motor driver product line has recently expanded to introduce the small 1.8-A brushed DC motor driver DRV8837, which is the smallest in the industry. The new product is further miniaturized in appearance, so it is more compact and stylish, and the system design is also more innovative, which can effectively prolong battery life and improve heat dissipation performance.
The DRV8837 has a voltage operating range of 1.8 V to 11 V and a wide operating voltage capable of supporting up to 6 alkaline or 2-cell Li-Ion battery pack applications. The tiny 2mm x 2mm WSON package, along with more reliable over-current, over-temperature, pass-through, and undervoltage protection, improves performance while simplifying the design. The logic is separate from the motor to improve the performance of battery-powered applications under start and stop conditions. 280 milliohms low RDS(ON) and only 35 nanoamps ultra-low sleep current can improve thermal performance for applications such as toys, smart gas or water meters, electronic locks, micro-printers, and video cameras.
Currently, the DRV8837 evaluation board is available now, with features such as on-board speed, sleep and directional control, support for easy evaluation/power-on micro-USB connection, and easy access to important controls and test points.
