Shell Lubricants and Oil R&D Center Settled in Shanghai

On March 25, 2014, Shell announced that its technology center dedicated to the development of lubricants and oil products in Shanghai, China, was officially launched. The technology center will provide lubricant product development and application services for China and the wider Asian region, covering India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

“The new R&D center represents the current direction of the Shell Lubricant business and fully reflects China’s core role in Shell’s long-term development strategy,” said Ge Sibo, executive vice president of Global Business Business of Shell's downstream business unit. “Looking into the future We will be able to fully meet the expected growth in business demand in the region. The geographical location of Shanghai will help us to work more closely with our customers and create a mutually beneficial and win-win situation."

Located in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park, the center has a wide range of research and covers a wide range of products and applications, including passenger vehicle lubricants, motorcycle lubricants, heavy-duty engine oils, transmission fluids, and industrial and specialty lubricants and greases. The center also develops various shipping oils. In addition to product research and development, the center also provides customers with practical technical services. The R&D center will also maintain contact with original equipment manufacturers and scientific institutions in the region. The lab facilities in the center can be used for field testing, performance demonstrations, and bench testing.
