Utilizing the accumulated experience in more than 120 years of history, Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan is working on designing high-tech ships.
According to Japanese media, Kawasaki Heavy Industries is currently working on the design and construction of the world's first liquid hydrogen carrier. Kawasaki Heavy Industries is developing two models, including a small liquid hydrogen carrier and a large liquid hydrogen carrier. The containment system is a major technical obstacle for Kawasaki Heavy Industries because liquid hydrogen needs to be stored in an environment 100 degrees lower than LNG.
At the same time, Kawasaki Heavy Industries also plays an important role in the development of intelligent solutions and innovative applications of Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Kawasaki Heavy Industries believes that IoT technology is likely to be applied to ships that operate on conventional or set-up routes, such as LNG carriers, container ships (ship-type shipyards), car carriers (ship-type shipyards) or VLCCs, which can be gradually extended to all On other ship types.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries cooperated with Kawasaki Steamboat to develop the K-IMS ship operation and performance management system project. The project aims to use the cloud system to manage the ship's “big data†to observe the ship's operational status, analyze performance and set recommended routes.
The next phase of Kawasaki Heavy Industries is the development of the ship operation and performance analysis support system SOPass. The project will integrate existing systems, including electronic logs, engine (product library supply) performance testing systems and weather navigation (product library purchase supply) support systems; in the LNG ship sector, this project will also involve cargo operations and Monitoring of the gas management support system (product library purchase supply).
In the future, Kawasaki Heavy Industries' maintenance support system will also include equipment manufacturers and suppliers. Data will be sent from the ship to the data support system for storage analysis and then passed to shipowners, charterers, shipyards, equipment manufacturers and other relevant parties. This information will be used to improve ship performance.
The goal of Kawasaki Heavy Industries is to develop a unique system that provides a comprehensive solution to maximize ship performance. This system will help plan efficient routes, improve fuel efficiency and plan for proper maintenance. Kawasaki Heavy Industries will start with LNG ships because Kawasaki Heavy Industries understands the operation of LNG ships. Using LNG ships as an example, the ship management support system and gas management planning functions are integrated to help shipowners and operators operate ships more easily and safely, and obtain economic benefits.
A senior executive of Kawasaki Heavy Industries said that the experience accumulated by Kawasaki Heavy Industries is the key to the success of its technology development. He said that Kawasaki Heavy Industries has been one of the leading shipyards in Asia for more than 120 years and has built a wide variety of ships. Kawasaki Heavy Industries' strong expertise and ship design capabilities are based on this long and rich history.
According to the International Ship Network, the high-tech ships of Kawasaki Heavy Industries will be built mainly by its outbuilding shipyards in Japan, such as LNG ships and VLGCs; while other standard merchant ships are mainly from Nantong COSCO Kawasaki (Location Review News) in China and Dalian COSCO Kawasaki (Location Review News Recruitment) is responsible for the construction. Both Nantong COSCO Kawasaki and Dalian COSCO Kawasaki adopted the construction technology and quality monitoring system of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and their performance records remained good. Nantong COSCO Kawasaki has recently completed the delivery of the world's first LNG-powered car carrier.
