According to reports, from April 1, 2015, India has forced commercial vehicles to be equipped with an ABS anti-lock brake system to improve road safety.
According to the issuance of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, all commercial vehicles must be equipped with an ABS system from April 1 this year.
India Forces Commercial Vehicles to Install ABS Systems to Improve Road Safety
As early as 2006, the Indian government had asked N2 and N3 commercial vehicles to install ABS. However, as of now, ABS is only required to be added on vehicles that transport oil and explosives. Although most suppliers provide ABS options for trucks and buses, many fleet operators and truck customers are not installed because they are not government mandated and require additional fees.
Depending on the vehicle configuration, the cost of installing an ABS system for a commercial vehicle is approximately between 15,000 rupees (about 240 US dollars) and 20,000 rupees (about 322 US dollars).
Local Indian media commented that the promotion of ABS on commercial vehicles will help reduce road safety accidents and casualties in India. According to reports, 78% of accidents in India originated from bad driving, and truck accidents and bus accidents accounted for 32% of all accident records.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (Ministry of Home Affairs) report, there were more than 470,000 traffic accidents in India in 2012, resulting in approximately 140,000 deaths, including 19.2% of trucks, 27,000 deaths, and 9.4% of passenger cars. The number is 13,000 people.
