According to foreign media reports, Volvo and Swedish car safety supplier Autoliv signed an agreement with graphics card company NVIDIA to jointly develop autonomous vehicle software system.
A joint venture between Volvo and Autoliv will team up with NVIDIA to develop a system that uses artificial intelligence to identify objects around the vehicle, predict threats and navigate safely.
Last year, Geely's Volvo and Autoliv became a joint venture company, Zenuity, to provide Volvo with autopilot software.
Volvo said it will release almost fully automatic cars by 2021.
Since the beginning of the year, Volvo has been using NVIDIA's artificial intelligence system to test semi-autonomous vehicles in Gothenburg, southern Sweden.
NVIDIA has also partnered with Toyota, Audi and Mercedes, and is one of the more popular technology partners in the driverless car industry.
BMW and Intel and Israel's vision system and map company Mobileye also formed an alliance to jointly develop an autonomous driving platform. The platform is expected to begin production in 2021. Parts manufacturer Delphi and Continental have also joined the platform.
In April this year, Daimler and Bosch formed a similar alliance to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles.
