Two new bellows thermoplastic polyurethane materials

Economical processing of two new bellows thermoplastic polyurethane materials - production error free stop

Leverkusen – Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) bellows are usually machined by injection blow molding. However, there is a disadvantage in the currently available TPU grading products using this technology, that is, after the machine is stopped, restarting the production is time consuming and costly. The machine needs to be rinsed, frequently cleaned with special particles, and then slowly restarted. In some cases, it only takes a few hours to achieve acceptable part quality. With Bayer MaterialScience's Desmopan® DP 1485A and DP 1490A TPU graded products based on aromatic polyester, technical support is at your fingertips. Jürgen Winkler, a specialist in TPU processing at Bayer MaterialScience, explained: “With our two new materials, the injection blow molding machine is easier to maintain a long standby time after the screw is idling. After that, the production can be restarted without any errors. ."
This material innovation stems from the targeted development of Bayer materials with the support of OSSBERGER GmbH + Co. Headquartered in Weissenburg, Bavaria, OSSBERGER GmbH + Co is the leading manufacturer of bellows injection blow molding machines. Klaus Haub, Sales Director of OSSBERGER, explained: “We tested the two new TPU materials on the company's existing PRESSBLOWER automated injection blow molding machine. The test shows that after using these two other TPU grading products, the production restart is simple. Much more, stable production can be achieved very quickly."
Two TPU graded materials show typical high quality characteristics of their material grade. For example, these two materials are very abrasive and abrasive. Their high melt hardness ensures cost savings in injection blow molding. Their noise reduction performance is optimized, so the bellows are much less audible during use than similar components of other elastomeric materials.
Winkler talked about “we have also succeeded in expanding the processing range based on the melting temperature. This has helped us to quickly form a stable production process after the injection blower has restarted.”
Bellows are used in a variety of industries, including the protection of shock absorbers, suspensions and steering axle systems in the automotive industry. If a thin-walled bellows is required due to the very small installation space of these components, the TPU is especially suitable for use. Unlike other elastomers, TPU can be used to produce thin-walled bellows with the best mechanical properties.
