Garlic cultivation temperature conditions

Garlic likes the cold environment, through the dormant garlic clove, starts to germinate at 3 °C ~ 5 °C, the optimum temperature is 12 °C ~ 20 °C, 30 °C above inhibits germination. The optimum temperature for the garlic seedling stage is 12°C to 16°C, which can tolerate a low temperature of -10°C for a short time. If the temperature is high during this period, it will enhance the respiration of the plants and consume more nutrients. The high temperatures associated with drought and lack of water will cause the aging of the leaf tissues, resulting in excessive fiber and poor quality. Therefore, autumn garlic should be harvested before the spring season, the product is tender and juicy. The garlic temperature requirements are as follows:

Germination period

(1) Lowest temperature: 3 to 5°C.

(2) Optimum temperature: 12 to 20°C.

(3) Maximum temperature: 30°C.

2. Seedling stage

(1) Lowest temperature: -10°C.

(2) Optimum temperature: 12 to 16°C.

(3) Maximum temperature: 25°C.

3. Bulb formation

(1) Optimal temperature: 15 to 20°C.

(2) Maximum temperature: 26°C.

Differentiation of flower buds and scale buds requires low temperatures. Generally, they can be differentiated after storage or timely planting. The optimum temperature for the formation of flower buds and bulbs is 15°C~20°C; above 26°C, the leaves are yellow and bulb growth slows down and enters dormancy. Therefore, regardless of spring or autumn sowing, bulbs are harvested before the advent of summer solstice. If it is broadcast late, it must be harvested before the summer solstice. Therefore, garlic should not be sowed late, because the shortening of the growth period will seriously affect the splitting and yield of garlic.
