Skoda's first compact SUV-Yeti was born in the second half of 2009, and the introduction of domestic SUV models with the Shanghai Volkswagen Tiguan shared platform was buzzed by media hype last year. Recently, President of Skoda (China) and Executive Vice President of Volkswagen (China) Luo Kaifu said in an interview that Skoda's first SUV model, Yeti, will be officially imported into domestic sales during the year and will be domestically produced in 2013.

Skoda Yeti Smaller SUV than Volkswagen Tiguan

As an important strategic model of Skoda, Yeti not only shared the well-known PQ35 platform with the Tiguan Tiguan that currently sells in China, but also the new Octavia and Volkswagen Golf 6 that we are more familiar with. Yeti also naturally "borrowed" the mature technology of its brothers in the powertrain. Skoda's "home" Shanghai Volkswagen had all the conditions to make the new car go into production smoothly. Yeti will start production at the new plant of Shanghai Volkswagen.

Skoda Yeti and Shanghai Volkswagen Tiguan Tiguan are both products under the Volkswagen PQ35 platform. However, from the current data and information received, Skoda Yeti will maintain a standard wheelbase after being made domestically. The already made Shanghai Volkswagen Tiguan Tiguan has a lengthened 80mm and a larger body. The Skoda Yeti's overall size is comparable to that of the Volkswagen Golf 6 and its length is only 4.2 meters.

Skoda Yeti imports will be the main 1.4TSI/1.8TSI made after the main push 1.4TSI

The imported Skoda Yeti is expected to target the 1.4TSI/1.8TSI two-displacement models, while the Shanghai Volkswagen Tiguan Tiguan is currently equipped with two 1.8/2.0TSI engines. The Tiguan Tiguan currently targets 1.8TSI displacement models. The soon-to-be-made Skoda Yeti will also launch two engines with a displacement of 1.4/1.8 TSI. Since they are different from the Tiguan Tiguan, they are taking a “low-cost” route, so the domestically produced Skoda Yeti will push 1.4. TSI. In overseas markets, Skoda Yeti is equipped with 1.2/1.8TSI two gasoline turbocharged direct injection engines and a 2.0TDI diesel engine with three types of tuning. The 1.2TSI engine has been determined to be domestically produced and is expected to appear on Skoda Yeti.

The Skoda Yeti four-wheel drive version is equipped with a dynamic tuning chassis, although the suspension still follows the front of the PQ35 platform: McPherson; rear: multi-link type but according to its SUV positioning corresponding tuning. The key technology of its four-wheel drive part adopts the fourth-generation Haldex clutch.

According to statistics, Skoda Yeti is almost an economical precursor car when driving on an ordinary road, and 96% of engine torque will be output to the front wheels. When driving on poor roads, Skoda Yeti's full time The four-wheel-drive control system will be able to sense the speed difference between the front and rear wheels in a very short period of time. The central "Haldex" clutch will divert 90% of the torque to the rear axle. Due to the limited-slip differential of the rear axle, the torque obtained by the rear wheels will be averaged to ensure good grip and stability on the rear wheels.
